Cognitive & Affective Addiction Neuroscience Lab
Addiction is a multifaceted psychiatric disease and a major public health problem. The Cognitive & Affective Addiction Neuroscience (CAAN) Lab at the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) combines behavioral, imaging and computational methodologies to study the complex neural and psychological mechanisms of opioid, tobacco and alcohol use disorders. We are particularly interested in the cognitive and emotional factors related to the nature, consequences, and treatments of addiction. We are also interested in the socioeconomic and sociocultural impacts on addiction risk and recovery trajectories. Our lab is located at the UPenn Center for Studies of Addiction, which has provided high-quality addiction treatments and played a key role in advancing addiction research frontiers since its foundation in 1971.
